CROSS LISTING GUIDANCE

I teach two courses at the same time. Rather than assigning the same work twice per section, can I combine the courses into one to better enable communication collaboration and assignment tracking?  

That is called cross listing and there is an option for that in Canvas. It must be done prior to publishing the course or it will mess up the assignments/grades. See directions here.  

I understand you cross-listed a section of your ______, then realized the student's submissions and grades were missing. 

This is expected when a section is cross-listed, but to get all of the student's submissions and grades back, you can de-cross-list the section that was previously cross-listed. Once the section is de-cross-listed, the sections will be separated to how they were before being cross-listed. 

Then you can retrieve the student's assignment submissions, any comments you left for them, as well as their grades. It is recommended cross-listing be completed prior to the course being published or students submitting work. Please see the below guides for additional information on this process! 

Once the section is de-cross-listed, you can either leave them separate for the duration of the courses. Or you could download the student's submissions and grades you left for them (before the cross-listing took place), and then import them all back after cross-listing them again.
